Teachers will get enhanced Salaries as the Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has factored-in Annual Leave Allowance. The employer ,TSC, provides teachers with this allowance once a year,and it is calculated based on their job groups, and it comes with additional pay.
Besides better salaries the teachers will also have a comprehensive medical cover, entitlement to leaves and loans among other benefits.
A primary school teacher will now earn a net salary of sh 32,000 after statutory deductions while a graduate secondary school teacher including those in junior secondary will earn upto sh 47,000 in net pay.
The annual leave allowance is paid each year together with January salaries. The lowest job group in B5 gets sh 4,000 as leave allowance and highest in D5 gets sh 10,000.
Teachers are entitled to a number of leaves including a thirty days annual leave which can be granted during school holidays.
A teacher is entitled to 42 days annual leave, which should be taken during school holidays. A teacher who is not on annual leave is assumed to be on duty even during school holidays.
The Commission further states that annual leave shall only be taken during school holidays and not be accumulated to be carried forward from year to year.
An application for annual leave shall be made online and only during school holidays and in the manner set out in Twenty Seventh Schedule of the TSC Code of Regulations for teachers (CORT);
From 1st December 2021 the Commission automated the leave application and approval process and migrated the same to an online system.
All teachers on TSC payroll, including interns are required henceforth to apply for leave using the online platform. Leaves put on an online platform are;

LATEST LEAVE ALLOWANCE RATES PER JOB GROUP
Teachers at Grade B5 (T- Scale 5); Primary Teacher II, receive a yearly annual leave allowance of Sh4,000. The same amount is paid to teachers in Grade C1 (T- Scale For Secondary Teacher III, Lecturer III and Primary Teacher I).
Sh6,000 is paid as annual leave allowance to all teachers in Grade C2 (T- Scale 7; Secondary Teacher II, SNE Teacher II (Primary Schools), Lecturer II and Senior Teacher II), and Grade C3 {T- Scale 8; Secondary Teacher I, Lecturer I, SNE Teacher I (Primary Schools), SNE Teacher II (Secondary Schools) and Senior Teacher I}.
Teachers in Grade C4 [T- Scale 9; Senior Master IV, Senior Lecturer IV, SNE Senior Teacher (Primary Schools), SNE Teacher I (Secondary Schools) and Deputy Head Teacher II] and those in Grade C5 [T- Scale 10; Deputy Principal IV, Senior Master III, Senior Lecturer III, Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and Curriculum Support Officer II] also receive Sh6,000 as annual leave allowance.
Finnaly all teachers in Grade D1 (T- Scale 11) to Grade D5 (T- Scale 15) receive a yearly leave of Sh10,000.
