President Uhuru Kenyatta has today launched new generation of the Kenyan Currency that feature animal photographs and not those of individual persons. This is in accordance with the new constitution. The current currencies have portraits of Kenya’s former presidents.
The New Generation Coins launched by President Kenyatta at the Central Bank of Kenya, CBK, this morning are:
- 1 Shilling Kenya coin; Bears the image of a Giraffe
- 5 Shillings Kenya Coin; Bears the image of a Rhino
- 10 Shillings kenya Coin;Bears the image of a Lion
- 20 Shillings Kenya coin; Bears the image of an Elephant.

The president launched the new generation currencies at at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), today.
The CBK Governor, Patrick Njoroge, announced that the new-generation coins have been gazetted and will begin to circulate today.
