Procedure for KUCCPS Courses and Programmes Registration
Step 1:
First, visit the KUCCPS registration page and click on Applications/Revision.
Step 2:
Input your index number in the top most tabs followed by the year you sat for KCSE examination then use your birth certificate number according to the information given to KNEC.
If you did not provide your birth certificate number during KUCCPS Registration then you should use your KCSE index number as the password.
Step 3:
All programmes have minimum subject requirements. You are supposed to apply for a course which you have met the minimum requirements, but the selection will be determined by the available capacity and overall performance.
After successfully logging in to the KUCCPS Student Portal, Click on COURSES/PROGRAMMES. You can also search for courses by institution, using the Institutions Tab.
When doing the selection you can move to the Course Basket those courses and programmes that interest you. This will shorten your list when preparing your final list of courses to apply for.
After you have finished choosing your courses, you will enter the Programme Codes. You will do this by using the Application/Revision tab.
Confirm that the Programme Codes entered correspond with the courses you would like to apply for then submit and follow the application fee payment instructions as below.
Step 4: KUCCPS APPLICATION FEE PAYMENT, KUCCPS Mpesa Paybill number
a) Pay the required amount through your mobile phone by Mpesa following the instructions below:
Go to M-PESA on your phone.
Select Pay Bill option.
Enter Business no. 820201.
Enter KCSE Examination year followed by 11 Digit INDEX NO e.g.201401234567891 as your account number. (no space)
Enter the Amount.
Enter your M-PESA PIN and Send.
b) A payment confirmation message will be sent to you from Mpesa. On receipt of the confirmation, continue with the application process. Keep the Mpesa message since you will require the Mpesa transaction ID to confirm the changes made.
Step 5:
Log out when you have finalized with KUCCPS application. This will keep your KUCCPS Registration information in the KUCCPS Student Portal safe.
KUCCPS Application – Applicant Choices
Applicants with an overall grade of C+ and above will be allowed to make a maximum of 8 choices of both degree and diploma programmes
Applicants with an overall grade of C- and above but below C+ will be allowed to make a maximum of 6 choices from diploma programmes.
Choices 1(a), 1(b) and 1(c) must be similar programmes while Choices 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 can be any other programmes for both degree and diploma programmes
KUCCPS Application for Gender Affirmative Action
Lowering by up to 2 points on the overall cut-off point for degree programmes for female applicants
Lowering the specific programme cut-off points by up to 2 points subject to attaining of a representation of a third for either gender and not exceeding the declared capacity of the programme by more than 10%.
KUCCPS Application for Minority and Marginalized Groups Affirmative
The minority and marginalized groups are as contained in the Commission for Revenue Allocation (CRA) policy for identifying marginalized areas
Lowering the specific programme cut-off points by up to 2 points subject to attaining 10% representation
KUCCPS Registration for Applicants with Disabilities
An application form to be completed by applicants with disabilities will be provided as a download on the KUCCPS website and must be certified by:
The head of the school
A registered medical practitioner
The National Council for Persons With Disabilities (NCPWD)
These application forms will be considered by the KUCCPS Board. The affirmative action will be by:
Placing all degree applicants with overall grade of C+ and above and have visual or hearing impairment subject to meeting the minimum admission requirements for their degree choices.
Lowering by 3 points below the overall cut-off point for degree programmes for applicants with physical impairment subject to meeting the minimum admission requirements for their degree choices.

8. Is it a must I reside inside the University hostels?
ANSWER: Accommodation at the University is not guaranteed and normally issued on first come basis after full payment of fees. Therefore, make necessary arrangements to secure accommodation at the University or outside before the reporting date.
For those who wish to stay outside, you will be required to fill out the Non-Resident Form (AA/F017).
9. What do you provide in hostels accommodation?
ANSWER: Karatina University provides a bed and a mattress. You will only come with beddings and personal emoluments.
10. Can I book a hostel room?
ANSWER: No, Karatina University does not allow booking of hostel. The rooms available will be allocated on a first come first assign basis.
However, the University will ensure that all students get accommodated with Hostels affiliated to Karatina University.
11. Can I cook inside the hostel?
ANSWER: No. Cooking is prohibited in Karatina University hostels. Students are encouraged to take meals from the University Cafeteria which is open for the entire Semester and the food is at very affordable prices.
12. What if I’m not able to report on this Academic Year?
ANSWER: Yes, your place will be reserved till the next Academic Year. You are required to officially write a deferment letter to the Registrar (Academic Affairs) after which it will be processed within a week.
After you receive the deferment response, you will be required to write an official letter to Registrar Academic Affairs to request for readmission.
NOTE: The University Funding Board (UFB) cycle elapses after the four years from the year of admission for the Government Sponsored Students Programme (GSSP). This means the Government will cease your funding and the Private Sponsored Students Programme (PSSP) fee structure will apply henceforth.
13. Can I defer if I’m not able to report in this Academic Year?
ANSWER: Yes, your place will be reserved till the next Academic Year. You are required to officially write a deferment letter to the Registrar (Academic Affairs) after which it will be processed within a week. After you receive the deferment response, you will be required to write an official letter to Registrar Academic Affairs to request for readmission
14. How can I transfer a course/ change a programme?
ANSWER: Karatina University will open the Change of Programme window inSeptember. You are required to check from the KUCCPS Students Portal whether you are qualified for the programme you wish to change to.
i. Check on the ‘Minimum Subjects Requirements’. You should meet the criteria set for the Programm
ii. Check the 2022 Cut-Off Points (COP) against your Cluster Points (WCP). To qualify the WCP should be equal to or greater than the COP.
iii. Fill the Change of Programme Form AA/F012 and submit it at the Dean of the School you have been admitted to.
iv. Wait for the response, which will be released latest by end of September.
v. Fill an Acceptance Form for Change of Programme Form AA/F013 and submit it to the School’s Administrative Assistant of the new programme.
Note: You will get a regret letter if either you have not qualified for the new programme or the new programme is at full quorum thus no capacity.
15. Do you pay accommodation fees in the same account with the fees account?
ANSWER: Yes. You can pay the accommodation fees of KShs 6,500 together with the fees as indicated in the Fee Structure.
Accommodation at the University is not guaranteed and normally issued on first come basis after full payment of fees. Therefore, make necessary arrangements to secure accommodation at the University or outside before the reporting date.
16. Can I pay half the fees for 1st Semester and get admitted?
ANSWER: No. Karatina University encourages all Students to pay fees in full. You will NOT get admitted if you will not have 100% of fees and 100% accommodation.
17. Must I come with the laptop during registration or I can acquire it after reporting?
ANSWER: For proper learning on the blended mode of study (online and physical), students are encouraged to have a laptop for ease of access of online teaching and materials.
18. What if I don’t have a NHIF Card, can I use my guardian’s?
ANSWER: Yes. NHIF cards are given to applicants above 18 years. So for reporting purposes, students below the age of 18 years can use the NHIF card for parent/guardian and will be required to avail a copy of the same on the reporting date.
For those above 18 years, kindly apply for an NHIF card at your nearest NHIF office before the reporting date and avail the NHIF acknowledgement slip (stamped and signed) on your reporting date.
