The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has dealt a major blow to hundreds of teachers who were hopeful of benefing from a World Bank Sponsorship opportunity. Details have emerged that at least eight hundred primary schools teachers have been delisted from the TSC World Bank sponsored P1 upgrading programme.
This is after it emerged that the teachers were already awarded Diploma and Degree certificates from various institutions but went ahead to register for the programme despite being advised otherwise.
TSC keeps a database of teachers when and after undergoing training in various colleges and universities.
Some teachers forwarded copies of their certificates to the employer after completion of training and were issued with acknowledgement letters.
Though the Commission cleared 38,849 P1 teachers for the programme, a good number were dropped.
TSC has not made the list of cleared teachers public thus creating anxiety on who will participate in the training aimed to upgrade their Primary Teacher Education (PTE) certificates.
The Commission only published the number of teachers approved for the training in each sub county.

TSC said the teachers will be instilled with key competencies to allow them teach junior schools in Grades 7, 8 and 9.
“The Commission is committed to ensuring that Junior School level of Education operates at optimum staffing level,” said TSC acting CEO Eveleen Mitei in a circular dated 22nd August.
A number of institutions which include high schools and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) have been selected to serve as training centres.
The training centres have been brought close to teachers to cut down on travel and other expenses.
Teachers will be able to attend training sessions which will now be close to their homes.
TSC has contracted universities to offer the upgrading programme in local institutions due to the huge number of PTE teachers listed for the training.
TSC is targeting teachers who scored KCSE mean grade C+ and above and at least C+ in two teaching subjects.
Successful teachers will then be deployed to handle Grades 7, 8 and 9 classes after completing the course.
