To sum up:
Senior Schools will be divided into categories according to pathways (triple and double pathways), lodging (day and hybrid senior schools), gender (single sex and mixed sex), and special needs (special needs senior schools and vocational senior schools).
As follows, the student will choose 12 institutions for their chosen pathway:
– Four institutions with the best combination of topics and tracks
– Four schools in the second choice subject combination
– Four schools with the third most popular subject combination
Of the twelve institutions chosen based on pathway, nine will be boarding schools: three in the student’s home county and six in the county where they live. Three (3) day schools are located in their home sub-county or county of residence.
The Story
Recently, Fred Odhiambo, the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Education, outlined the requirements for enrolling students in grade 10, stressing a systematic approach to guarantee fair access to education. On April 23, Odhiambo emphasized that the selection process for senior schools will take into account a variety of variables, such as educational routes, accommodation types (day and hybrid schools), gender, and special needs requirements.
As it relates to the current Grade 9 cohort, who will move to Grade 10 in 2026 and start the senior school phase under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), this program is especially important.
The ministry’s emphasis on various pathways is intended to meet the specific requirements of each learner, thereby ensuring that all pupils have the chance to succeed in their academic pursuits.
In order to promote an inclusive atmosphere that promotes the diverse hopes and talents of students throughout the nation, the Ministry of Education is implementing these standards.
