Kazi Mtaani New Jobs: 25,392 applicants to battle for the 2,032 vacancies in Kakamega
Out of a staggering 25,392 hopefuls who expressed their enthusiasm and submitted applications for the Climate Workx program via the government’s digital portal, a mere 1,966 young individuals and 66 supervisors are set to be recruited in Kakamega County. This initiative, now rebranded as the revamped Kazi Mtaani Initiative, is poised to kick off next month.
County Commissioner Michael Meru Mwangi shared that this six-month program aims to provide daily wages while focusing on essential tasks such as road upkeep, drainage systems, waste management, and bolstering climate resilience.
He emphasized that implementing agencies should prioritize impactful access roads and promote the use of local labor and materials to uplift the community.
The chosen youth, aged between 18 and 35, will be deployed across all 14 sub-counties, organized into two groups working ten weekdays per phase.
“The recruited youth will maintain a gender balance of 50-50, but only those who applied formally online will be considered,” he noted.
Participants will earn Sh500 daily, while supervisors will receive Sh580.
Technical support will be provided by various implementing agencies, including KeNHA, KURA, KeRRA, and KFS. Additionally, organizations like NACADA, the Kenya Red Cross, and the Public Health Department will lend their assistance.
This initiative aims to ensure gender equity, inclusivity for persons with disabilities, and community empowerment through the utilization of local labor and resources.
