Husband of teacher killed after taking money out from bank had earlier been kidnapped, robbed of cash
Residents of Ekero Market in Busia are stunned after a female teacher from Khaunga Secondary School was shot dead by armed criminals on Tuesday.
The victim, Roselida Akinyi Wanga, was assaulted in broad daylight shortly after withdrawing Ksh. 200,000 from a bank located in Mumias town.
Eyewitnesses stated that the attackers, who had been following her in a small vehicle, ambushed her as she was on her way home.
According to area Chief Peter Nabiswa, this is not the first occurrence of targeting the family. Last year, Akinyi’s husband, who is also a teacher, was kidnapped, robbed of cash, and discarded in a thicket in Siaya after taking money out from the same bank.
The couple additionally ran mobile banking and agency services at Khaunga Market, which may have rendered them susceptible to criminal attention.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations are in progress, but no arrests have been made thus far.
Community members have denounced the killing, calling for quick action from law enforcement.
The violent murder has left residents feeling fearful, with many urging authorities to improve security measures.
This incident underscores rising worries regarding bank-related robberies in different areas of the country, with demands for better security for business operators and residents.
