New minimum requirements and universities offering education degree courses

It will now not be easy for you to pursue a degree in education without meeting set minimum grades in Mathematics and English. According to the requirements from the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), a candidate must have to score at-least a C (plain) in English to undertake any teaching degree programme. This is in addition to the minimum cluster points set by respective universities.

A student will also have to score a minimum of a D+ (plus) in Mathematics so as to be admitted to a Bachelor of Education (Arts) course. Those seeking to be science teachers must score a minimum of a C (plain) in Mathematics and a C+ (plus) in any of the Sciences offered at high school.

The above requirements will lock out many Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) graduates intending to pursue teaching related courses.

KUCCPS has placed education Science and Arts degree programmes in cluster 22. For Bachelor of Education Arts; Four cluster subjects are considered. These are:

  • Cluster Subject One: English (A minimum of C plain is required)
  • Cluster Subject Two: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
  • Cluster Subject Three: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Religious Education
  • Cluster Subject Four: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Kiswahili……

KCSE students who want to apply for degree or TVET programs have a seven-day application window, according to the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS). Applications must be submitted by April 30, 2025.

Students have been encouraged by KUCCPS to apply before the deadline. When the deadline expires, the gateway will shut, preventing procrastinators from submitting their applications.

Degree program applications are available to individuals who took the 2024 KCSE exams. Students who took their exams between 2000 and 2024, however, are eligible for TVET programs, which include diplomas, certificates, and artisanal courses.

The application procedure also includes teacher training colleges (TTCs). But only candidates who took their exams between 2000 and 2024 and are looking for teaching courses at certain institutions are eligible for these.

Degree programs, according to KUCCPS, are only open to individuals who earned a C+ or above on their KCSE tests. For pupils seeking degree programs, this is a really important piece of information.

The low number of applications has caused concern for the placement agency. As of April 17, more than 100,000 students who met the requirements for university entrance had not yet applied.

In order for students not to miss out, KUCCPS Director of Placement and Career Development John Oluoch advised them to act fast. He pointed out that over half of those who qualified had not yet submitted their applications.

The notice serves as a reminder for students to apply right away, especially since the portal will be closing shortly. KUCCPS stressed that students should not wait until the last minute to apply in order to prevent any technological problems when accessing the site.

Following officials’ observations that many students are waiting until the last minute to submit their applications—which may result in unneeded stress—the agency is now urging people to apply on time.

With the deadline quickly approaching, KUCCPS is encouraging applicants to finish their applications as soon as possible in order to guarantee their spot in the programs they want. On April 30, 2025, at midnight, the application procedure will come to an end.

KUCCPS Opens Inter Institutional Transfers Portal

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service has opened the online application system for inter-institutional transfer (IIT) applications.

The application is open for KCSE candidates who have been successfully placed in various universities and TVET institutions but wish to transfer to other institutions.

The portal for inter-institution application will be open for a period of two (2) months.

Application Information

  1. All applications for inter-institution transfers MUST be submitted online through the Student’s Portal (students.kuccps.net). The entire process is automated and printing the filled application form will no longer be necessary.
  2. Detailed guidelines for the IIT application are available on the portal.
  3. The IIT processing fee should be paid only after the applicant has successfully completed the necessary steps in the application process following the instructions provided in the portal. Do not make any prior payment.
  4. Applicants are cautioned against sending money to any individual purporting to be in a position to assist them. The Placement Service does not require applicants to send money to any mobile phone numbers.
  5. Transfer processing fee shall be paid to the KUCCPS MPESA Pay Bill No.820201.
  6. Please read and follow all instructions provided.

Inter-Institutions transfer process involves the following steps:

  1. The student initiates an online transfer application and submits to the receiving institution.
  2. The receiving institution endorses the transfer applications received through their institution portal and submit.
  3. The releasing institution receives the application and clears the student(applicant) through their institutions portal and submits
  4. The endorsed application comes to the CEO,KUCCPS for approval where a tranfer letter will be generated and accessed by the applicant and the two institutions involved.
  5. The applicant downloads the approved transfer letter and presents the same to the receiving institution for admission and joining instructions

How to apply for KUCCPS inter university transfer 2023/2024

HOW TO APPLY FOR KUCCPS INTER-UNIVERSITY TRANSFER 2023/2024.

Follow the steps below to apply for inter university transfer:

  1. Visit KUCCPS website via http://student.kuccps.net
  2. Enter your KCSE index number ,2022 as the ‘KCSE year’ ,use your KCPE index number or birth certificate number as password to login into your account
  3. Click on the ‘transfers’ tab on the top of the window and follow the steps below.

STEP 1: Select the programme you want to transfer to ,In the inter institution transfer field insert the Programme code. You will proceed only if you meet the cut off points and other minimum requirements for the specific course in the institution.

STEP 2: Reason For transfer: The placement service demands that a candidate provides a solid reason for transfer. Main reasons for transfer are; Medical reasons, Financial reasons, Person with Disability, Not my preferred programme or other (You specify). Attach any relevant document that supports the reason for your transfer after which you will be required(in not less than 300 and not more than 600 words) to explain the reason for initiating the transfer. The next page will load automatically if all fields are filled.

STEP 3: Transfer payment: A non refundable transfer fee of Sh 1,000 is paid to KUCCPS via Mpesa .You will follow the procedures indicated in the current window to make payments. After entering the Mpesa confirmation code ,the system will validate and automatically load the next step.

STEP 4: Approval by Receiving institution: The institution you applied to transfer to will receive your application, Considering the availability of space of the course at the institution, the receiving institution may endorse or reject your request.

STEP 5: Approval by release institution: If your application is accepted by the receiving institution, the releasing institution will most probably endorse your transfer.

STEP 6: Approval by KUCCPS: After your transfer is approved by both the releasing and receiving institutions, the placement service will review your application.

STEP 7: Once your application has been reviewed by KUCCPS ,you will be required to download the transfer letter which you will present to the receiving institution during admission.

NOTE

Inter institution transfer is done Online. No physical presentation of application forms to any office.

Inter Faculty/change of course is done by the institution (University) and not by KUCCPS.

Payment For 2023 KUCCPS Inter-university transfer

1. An application-processing fee of Ksh1,000 is charged per application.

A prompt for the M-PESA transaction code will appear at the point of submission. Please keep the transaction code safely as it may be required again.

CAUTION! Do not make any payment before the applicant has been prompted or after the application deadline has passed!

2. Once one has made an application for transfer, the applicant may monitor the progress of their application via the student’s portal.

Note 1:

All application fee payments to the Placement Service MUST be made to the M-Pesa Pay Bill No. 820201.

Note 2:

Applicants are cautioned against sending money to any individual posing on social media or any other platform purporting to be in a position to assist them. The Placement Service does not require applicants to send money to any mobile phone numbers.

KUCCPS Application Deadline 2022/2023

Official Management of the Kenya Universities and colleges Placement Service (KUCCPS) officially announced the Deadline for submission of the KUCCPS Online Placement Application form for the 2022/2023 Academic year.

The  programmes have minimum subject requirements.

As per to Kuccps, You will only be able to apply for a course whose minimum requirements you meet, but the selection will be determined by the overall performance and the available capacity.

It is important to  view the available programmes and their requirements by clicking the Programmes tab in the portal. You can also search for courses by institution, using the Institutions tab.

While selecting the programmes, it  may move the ones that interest you into the Course Basket.

An application processing fee is charged as follows:

Those students applying for the first time – Ksh 1,500

The students revising their choices submitted in school – Ksh1,000

Official placement processing fee should be paid after you have selected courses.

Then you  are advised to keep your transaction code safely. It will be required before you make any subsequent changes to your application.

KUCCPS admission letters are official documents indicating provisional admission to university studies for a particular degree program. The University’s KUCCPS admission letters confirm that a student has been accepted into the university. To get these letters, students usually go to the KUCCPS website or the website of the university ‘s online Portal. They need to enter their KCSE index number and the year they took the KCSE exam. After that, they can download their admission letter and other important documents.

THE  UNIVERSITY’s  ADMISSION LETTER DETAILS

The University’S admission letter is an important document that enables you, as a prospective student, to prepare well before joining the institution. Among other functions, the letter enables you to apply for Higher Education Funding (HEF) through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), other Bursaries. It also provides a list of items that a Student must obtain before reporting to the university.

Contents of the University’s admission letter include:

  • Your University’s Admission Number
  • Your Full Name
  • Your Postal Address and other contact details
  • The Course you have been selected to pursue.
  • Reporting dates
  • What to carry during admission; Original and Copies of your academic certificates, national identity card/ passport, NHIF/ SHA Card, Coloured Passports and Duly filled registration forms accessible at the university’s website.
  • Fees payable and payment details

KUCCPS Placement Results 2022/2023 has released for candidates who sat for exams. Here is a simplified guide on how to check your results quickly.

According to the management of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, the KUCCPS result Placement will soon publish its first national exam results for 2022.

The KUCCPS result can be check in two ways, Online, and SMS Method. You can follow the directions below

HOW TO CHECK KUCCPS PLACEMENT RESULT 2022

You can check your result so easily by following these simple steps

  1. Switch on your laptop or mobile and connect to the Internet.
  2. Open a web browser and type http://students.kuccps.net/
  3. Check the main menu and click on Log in.
  4. Enter your “KCSE Index Number”
  5. Type your Password
  6. Finally, click on GO.

KUCCPS now opens portal for KCSE 2021 Candidates To Apply, Revise Courses

It’s now official that the KUCCPS portal is now open for 2022/2023 University, College and TVET applications. Students who completed their secondary school studies and are yet to apply can now log into https://students.kuccps.net/login/ for application.

Input your KCSE index number, KCSE year and use your birth certificate number as your password.

Students who scored a minimum of a C+ can apply for degree courses in both the public and private universities country wide. Students with a mean grade of C- and above qualify for diploma courses, D+ qualify for certificate course while the rest can apply for artisan courses.

Applicants are required to pay an application fee of 1500 Kenyan shillings and note down the MPESA transaction code for confirmation. After entering the valid code you can proceed with the application.

Take note of the cluster points making reference with the previous years before submitting an application. Another factor to be considered if the minimum entry requirements. On insertion of the course code, the system will automatically notify you if you qualify for the selected course.

The KUCCPS portal and website for applying and checking of university, colleges & polytechnic courses

Applications for placement in Kenyan Universities, Artisan, and Colleges is done via the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, KUCCPS, portal. All secondary schools are expected to give necessary career guidance and assist the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, 2019 candidates with online application for placement to universities and colleges.
Secondary schools shall on behalf of candidates collect, collate and submit online application for placement to universities and colleges by following procedures given in the website.
Every candidate is required to pay Kshs 500(Five hundred only); following procedures given in the website.

Minimum kuccps placement requirements

The minimum requirements for placement to degree is C+, Diploma C- , Craft Certificate D- and Artisan Certificate E.
Apart from the set minimum placement requirements set by kuccps, respective regulatory and professional bodies always set own requirements.
That the placement of government sponsored students is only for Kenyan Citizens.

The Placement Procedure

Students placement to institutions of higher learning occurs in four (4) phases, namely:

Stage 1: KUCCPS School/Centre Application

The School/Centre application phase occurs between October and December. All candidates should be encouraged to apply and can select for four levels. However they should make choices for programmes they are only interested in pursuing. No program is mandatory.

Stage 2: KUCCPS first revision 

First revision for degree and diploma choices will be on dates to be announced by placement service after the release of KCSE results.

Stage 3: KUCCPS second revision

Candidates who will not have qualified on competitive selection for any of their preferred choices during the first round of selection will be given a chance to do second revision by selecting courses with unfilled capacities.

Stage 4: Placement to any Programme.

Any applicant who fails to qualify for their choices but meet the cut off points for placement may be offered any course with unfilled capacities taking into account the minimum requirements for admission.

How to Log onto the KUCCPS Portal

  • Access the Student’s login portal by using the address: https://students.kuccps.net/login/
  • Enter your 2019 KCSE index number, KCSE year (2019) and your password ( Use Your Birth Certificate No. / KCPE Index No (as used in KCSE Exam Registration) as your Initial Password).

How to check your 2021 Kuccps placement

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Student Portal enables you to get your 2021/2022 university, college or Tvet placement results instantly. Getting your 2021/2022 Kuccps placement results at the student portal is quite simple and this service is offered free of charge.

GETTING YOUR KUCCPS 2021 PLACEMENT RESULTS THROUGH ONLINE PORTAL

Apart from getting your results through the Kuccps student portal is one of the surest ways of checking your admission results. The other method through which you can get your placement results is through the Kuccps SMS.
Back to the Kuccps student portal. Follow the simple steps below;
  • Using your browser (chrome, mozilla, opera, fire fox or yahoo) on mobile phone or computer visit the official Kuccps student portal; http://students.kuccps.net/
  • Login with your details as follows;
  • Username: (Use your full Index Number as issued during KCSE examinations. It should have 11 digits)
  • Year: (2020)
  • Password: (Use your Birth Certificate Number or KCPE index number)

After login you should see a box at the bottom of your dashboard, first page, with a message that reads

“Congratulations, followed by the university name; where you have been placed then finally the course you will pursue.”

Next, you can either apply for inter university transfer or simply download your Kuccps 2021/2022 admission letter.
