KEBS bans Dola, Kifaru, Jembe and other maize meal flour….

The Kenya Bureau of Standards, KEBS, has banned a number of maize flour because they contain high levels of afflatoxin. Consumption of aflatoxins contributes to the mutagenic, carcinogenic (Cancer causing), teratogenic, and immunosuppressive health effects in the body. The adverse effect of aflatoxins in humans ranges from acute hepatic toxicity to chronic disease such as liver cancer, haemorrhages, oedema, and even immediate death.
