MP Ndindi Nyoro helped organize a vacation to Dubai and Malaysia for 12 principals.
Last year, the Kiharu MP established a scheme to reward principals of the top-performing and most-improved day secondary schools in each of the six wards with a vacation.
The goal was to foster rivalry between the schools.
After heading the group for two years in a row, one of the principles was given a unique choice.
“The principal of Mukangu Secondary School had already traveled to Dubai last year, after his school came out on top in his ward, and he did so again this year; so rather than returning to Dubai, he opted for a different location,” Nyoro said.
“We said we would never punish success. Even if a principal leads every year, they will still benefit from this program.”
The principals will have all expenses paid for their five-day vacation at their vacation location before being transported back to their homes.
According to Nyoro, the purpose of the holidays is to thank the teachers for guiding their schools to better results while also inspiring their peers to strive for excellence.
The instructors who taught the courses with the highest improvement and the greatest performance are brought on vacation in Mombasa.
“They board the Standard Gauge Railway to Mombasa, spend five days there, and then we fly them back to Nairobi and bring them home.”
The lawmaker pointed out during his speech at Ihura stadium on Thursday that the program is being carried out under the Kiharu Fanikisha initiative, which also supports young people by offering brief training in local vocational training facilities.
“However, since the NGCDF is unable to cover the incentive scheme, we seek additional funding from other sources to support it.”
At the graduation ceremony for the 1,200 young people who have completed four-month, tuition-free courses in hospitality, driving, and cosmetology, the lawmaker gave a speech.
According to the MP, the training aims to strengthen local youth and increase their employability. He went on to say that young people have shown interest in technical skills that are in increasing demand in the labor market.
