Kirinyaga University Courses, Requirements, fees, How to apply online, website and students portal log in

Universities are the highest learning institutions in Kenya and the World over. They offer training majorly in undegraduate and Post Graduate Studies. In Kenya, the Courses offered in the Universities must be accredited by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS. It is the same body that selects and places students to higher learning institutions; Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics. To qualify for University placement one must attain the minimum set Mean grade and particular course requirements. Each Course offered at particular university has its own cluster cut off points, though. Most university courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. An academic year at the university takes two semesters of three months each. University students get fees loans from various organizations. Top on the list is the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB, that advances both loans and Bursaries. Universities run online platforms; portals and websites, where such services as admission application, online accommodation booking, E-learning, exams results downloads and many are provided to students, staff and the general public. On admissions, most universities have admissions in May and September for new students.

Former TSC Kenya Chair dies

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of comfort to the family of former Teachers Service Commission (TSC) chairman Ibrahim Mohamed Hussein who passed away recently.

In his message, the President described the late Ibrahim as a devoted and patriotic public servant whose commitment to improving the education sector in Kenya will remain a mark of his legacy.

“With the passing on of Mzee Ibrahim Hussein, our country has sadly lost a long-serving and highly accomplished educationist.

“Kenyans will forever remember Mzee Ibrahim for his immense contribution to the transformation of the our country’s education sector.

“During his long tenure as the Chairman of the Teachers Service Commission, Mzee Ibrahim engineered various reforms that helped enhance the management and welfare of Kenyan teachers,” President Kenyatta eulogised.

Besides his distinguished profile as an educationist and administrator, Mzee Ibrahim was a highly respected Somali elder and community leader who cherished and pursued peace among Northern Kenya communities.

“In years after his retirement from mainstream public service, Mzee Ibrahim relentlessly applied his position as an elder and community leader to pursue peace especially among his Somali community,” the President said.

President Kenyatta prayed to God to give the family of Mzee Ibrahim the fortitude and strength needed to bear the loss of their patriarch.

TSC to hire 10,300 intern teachers in Primary and Secondary schools: Application dates, requirements and vacancies

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, is set to hire about 10,000 intern teachers this October. This is in a bid to reduce the teething shortages in Secondary and Primary Schools. 4,300 teachers will be recruited on contract basis in Primary schools, while Secondary schools have been given 6,000 slots. The Commission is targeting to employ over 80,000 interns to help reduce the staff shortages in public primary and secondary schools that have been occasioned by introduction of free education.

Read also; MPS, Teachers’ Unions give TSC green light to hire over 80000 intern teachers so as to plug shortages

Those in Secondary Schools will get a stipend of Kes 15,000 per month but which will be subjected to statutory deductions. the Statutory deductions include HELB Loan, PAYE tax, Medical fees (NHIF) and NSSSF; among others. Their counterparts in Primary schools will pocket a gross salary of Kes 10,000 monthly.

In the past, TSC has given preference to teachers employed on contracts when filling permanent and pensionable vacancies. It is expected that the recruited interns would thus be employed on permanent basis when the vacancies are advertised.

Application deadline

Interested and qualified candidates have till the 23rd of October, 2019 to tender their applications. The candidates should meet the following minimum requirements; read details here: https://newsblaze.co.ke/2019-tsc-recruitment-guidelines-for-teachers/

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

  • For each subject combination, select four schools from the available clusters.
  • This ensures a diverse range of options and equal representation from different categories of schools.
  • A total of 12 schools will be selected: 4 for the first subject combination, 4 for the second, and 4 for the third.

Body of missing teacher found in Chickens’ house; badly mutilated and decomposing

The body of a Primary school head teacher, who had been reported missing, was on Sunday discovered in a house belonging to a nurse in Nyamira County.

The badly mutilated body of Mr Ezekiel Nkeere Gitangwa, 47, was found hidden in a room used for poultry keeping.

According to police reports, the body was covered with a carpet and had started decomposing.

Police had to break into the house of the Nyamaiya Health Centre-based nurse to access the body. But the health worker was not in the house. The nurse has since been identified as Agneta Agwata.

“We received a report from the teacher’s wife Gladys Bonareri Achoki that her husband was missing,” read the Nyamira police report; in part.

The late Ezekiel was the immediate head teacher of Getengereirie primary school in North Mugirango Constituency.

He was a big lover of sports and was fondly referred to as ‘OmoChelsea’ because of his unwaivering support for the English Premier league club Chelsea FC.

The teacher was last seen at 9 am on Friday, the same day he was reported missing.

“This is the same day when he was dropped by a boda boda rider at Egesieri village, West Mugirango location. A missing person report was circulated and a search mounted, leading investigators to the house belonging to the nurse,” indicated the police report.

The body of the deceased teacher was moved to Nyamira County Hospital Mortuary by the police awaiting postmortem.

Investigations to unravel the cause of his death are underway.

The death of Mwalimu Ezekiel comes few days after another gruesome death of Rangenyo Girls school Principal Lydia Onyoni.

TSC trains over 291,000 teachers to ensure the effective CBC implementation

In summary: TSC has provided training to over 291,000 teachers to ensure the effective implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

The Teachers Service Commission has provided training to more than 291,134 educators in order to equip them with the necessary skills to effectively implement the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

During the National Conversation on Competency-Based Education (CBE), Peter Kega, a director at TSC, mentioned that a total of 291,134 teachers have undergone training. Specifically, 229,292 of these teachers are from primary schools, 60,642 are from junior secondary schools, and 1,200 are from teachers’ training institutions as of April 25, 2024.

Kega stated that the training has enabled teachers to enhance their implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE), and that the teachers are consistently engaged in the curriculum development process.

Following the completion of training sessions, teachers are provided with ongoing professional support in recognition of the fact that learning is a continuous journey. To date, the government has extended professional support to a total of 7,200 teachers nationwide.

The primary objective of the government’s Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) is to incorporate technology into the educational system, particularly within schools, and has made substantial progress in executing this initiative nationwide.

The commission is currently providing teachers with capacity building opportunities in the Digital Literacy Programme. Thus far, one thousand teachers have undergone training in remote teaching methods. This approach does not require teachers to physically be in the classroom, as learners are instead guided using various techniques.

Digital literacy involves educators from well-equipped schools with advanced resources remotely delivering their lessons to other institutions via livestreamed classes. Currently, there are 180 satellite schools participating in this program, where students receive real-time instruction from 30 primary schools that serve as the main teaching hubs.

The Teaching Service Commission has hired 76,765 individuals to work in junior schools, with 56,765 teachers being offered permanent and pensionable positions. Additionally, 20,000 individuals are currently serving as interns. A significant number of teachers in primary schools possess the qualifications necessary to teach in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) and have been assigned to work in that capacity.

What TSC will pay Primary school teacher II (T-scale 5; formerly job group G): July 2020-2021 TSC salaries

TSC Primary school teacher II (T-scale 5; formerly job group G) is an entry grade for Primary school teachers. The basic requirements for this grade are: having a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) minimum mean Grade C (Plain) or other recognized equivalent qualifications; and must be in possession of a Primary Teacher Certificate (PTE) or its approved equivalent. These tutors earn monthly basic salaries of Sh21,756.

The basic salaries for these teachers are paid depending on the areas where they work. Teachers who work in Nairobi get a slightly higher house allowance compared to those plying their trade in rural schools. But, all these tutors earn an equal amount of commuter allowance; which is Sh4,000.

To know your exact salary, check your current salary (under the current salary column) and move along the row to the right. what you see under gross pay is what you will earn before deductions.

Those working in hardship areas (get Sh6,600) plus those handling physically challenged students get extra allowances.

Remember, the commission pays a flat rate of Sh4,000 per year as leave allowance. This is paid together with the January salaries.
