Ebola disease outbreak – Kenya Latest News

Siaya County government has established Ebola screening points in a bid to curb the spread of the deadly disease that has been reported in Uganda, County Executive committee member for health, Dismas Odhiambo Wakla has said.

Wakla said that the screening points will be at Sega and Ugunja townships along the Busia – Kisumu highway, the major trade route to Uganda.

Addressing the media in Siaya town Monday, the CEC said that his department was also intensifying surveillance along the Lake Victoria islands and beaches that connect to the neighbouring country.

“We have established that the Lake area is another weak link to our efforts to keep Ebola at bay,” he said adding that residents of the islands and beaches interact a lot with Ugandans through trade, fishing and other activities hence the need to create more awareness and intensify surveillance.

Wakla, who was accompanied by the county disease surveillance coordinator, Eunice Oreri lamented that his staff were experiencing a challenge within the Lake front, especially reaching the fishermen whom, he added, ply their trade at night.

“We are talking of people who ply their trade at night, while during the day, when our people are making contact and screening people, they are asleep,” said the CEC.

He however said that they have resorted to using community health volunteers who have been adequately briefed about Ebola to reach out to the targeted groups.

He said that his department has further reached out to the national government, through the office of the county commissioner and have agreed on a multi sectoral approach to handle the issue.

The county disease surveillance coordinator, Eunice Oreri appealed to the public to work closely with health personnel and other government officials to keep the deadly disease at bay.

She said that anybody who comes across a person with Ebola like symptoms should call a Toll Free line 0800721008.

Oreri further urged the residents to intensify hand washing with soap and avoid contact with anybody exhibiting Ebola signs.

Revealed! List of bizarre things that mourners check during burials/ funerals

A burial ceremony is a sad moment to the bereaved family members and maybe relatives. The family members mourn the demise of loved ones. For some mourners this is the time to check on finer details on the funeral proceedings. As others wail for the loss of a loved one, some hawk eyed ‘mourners’ are busy checking on other details. This group of ‘mourners’ will usually be seen either seated or standing at strategic positions; and, more often than not engaged in low tone discussions. This usually takes place in rural set ups.

Here is a list of items that these ‘mourners’ pay attention to:
1. The type of casket used to carry the remains of the late. They will analyze the casket in terms of costing and suitability.
2. Overall organization of the ceremony. They will take a deep at the types of chairs and tents hired for mourners to sit on during the ceremony. They will scramble for the ‘few’ copies of burial programmes printed. Make a mistake of not availing some copies to them and they will shamelessly yell at the top of their voices! Are there meals prepared for mourners and is the quality & quantity sufficient?
3. They will take time to check on who has graced the ceremony. How many mourners have attended the burial and whether there are there any luminaries in attendance.
4. The number of vehicles in the procession. These ‘mourning cops’ will even highlight on the numbers of vehicles that escort the late from the morgue.
5. Presentation of the family to the late. They will critique the clothes worn by the family members, what each family member says, how many children and siblings blah blah that the late has left behind.
6. Size of ‘Shamba’ (Land) and buildings in the homestead. They will have an opportunity to check on the assets owned by the late person’s family. How many acres of land, vehicles and even the nature of buildings…
7. Education level of the family members and occupation. This group is keen on finer details. They leave no stone untouched! They will want to know the education qualifications of the family members and what they do for a living. Are the members in formal or informal employment?
8. Very keen on speeches from politicians. They will pay great attention to what the political class say. They will applaud, laugh and even clap accordingly. Unfortunately, they will turn a blind eye on the Men of God! They have no time for the Word of God. They may even start leaving immediately the preacher takes the podium.

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

  • For each subject combination, select four schools from the available clusters.
  • This ensures a diverse range of options and equal representation from different categories of schools.
  • A total of 12 schools will be selected: 4 for the first subject combination, 4 for the second, and 4 for the third.

FEASSSA Games 2025: Nakuru City will host the 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association, FEASSSA, the Ministry of Education has confirmed. Kakamega County had shown interest in hosting the prestigious East Africa showpiece.

Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa had said that the region was strategically preparing to host the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) games in 2025.

Kenya is expected to string a master piece of hosting to surpass what was witnessed in Mbale City of Uganda in 2025.

Summary of the 2025 FEASSSA Games Calendar.

  • Hosting Country: Kenya
  • Hosting Region: Rift Valley
  • Hosting City: Nakuru City
  • Hosting County: Nakuru

“This year’s edition was special. The athletes competed on first-class facilities built for the games. Uganda has set a high standard in hosting these games, and Kenya has the task of raising the bar even higher,” Mugisha stated.

International School Sport Federation (ISF) President Laurent Petrynka who was present at the closing ceremony also praised Uganda’s organization of the event.

“The games were organized under the best conditions in terms of security, sport, hospitality, and spirit. It aligns with the ISF spirit of competing on the field while upholding the values of education and sport,” said Petrynka.

Commodities Trading: Profiting from Basic Goods

In the labyrinth of financial markets, commodities trading stands out as a fundamental pillar, allowing investors to profit from the very bedrock of the global economy—basic goods. This form of trading involves the buying and selling of physical goods like gold, oil, and agricultural products or their derivative contracts. It is an ancient form of trade, predating even the stock market, and remains vital to the global economy today. With the advent of the internet and modern trading platforms, commodities trading has become more accessible than ever. This article explores how individuals and institutions can leverage commodities trading for profit, emphasizing the role of commodity trading platforms and adhering to the simple rules for exchanging foreign currency.

Understanding Commodities Trading

Commodities are classified into two main types: hard and soft. Hard commodities are natural resources that are mined or extracted (such as gold, oil, and natural gas), while soft commodities are agricultural products or livestock (such as wheat, coffee, and pork bellies). Trading in these commodities involves direct physical transactions or more commonly, through futures contracts on a commodity trading platform. These platforms have revolutionized the way commodities are traded, providing tools for analysis, real-time data, and seamless execution of trades.

The Role of Commodity Trading Platforms

A commodity trading platform is a digital marketplace where traders can buy and sell commodity contracts. These platforms offer a range of financial instruments related to commodities, including futures, options, and spot contracts. The primary advantage of using a trading platform is the aggregation of market data, charting tools, and the ability to execute trades instantly. For beginners and experienced traders alike, selecting a reputable and user-friendly platform is crucial. The best platforms offer educational resources to help traders understand market trends and develop strategies.

The Importance of Strategy

Success in commodities trading requires more than just an understanding of the basic goods being traded. It involves a strategic approach that considers market trends, geopolitical events, and economic indicators. Traders must be vigilant, as commodities markets are known for their volatility. This volatility, while risky, creates opportunities for profit. Implementing risk management techniques, such as stop-loss orders and position sizing, is essential to protect investments.

Adhering to Simple Rules for Exchanging Foreign Currency

Commodities trading on a global scale involves dealing with multiple currencies. As such, understanding the simple rules for exchanging foreign currency is integral. This includes monitoring exchange rates, understanding the impact of geopolitical events on currency values, and utilizing currency risk management strategies. Many commodity trading platforms offer tools for managing currency exposure, including futures contracts on currencies themselves. Being adept at foreign currency exchange can enhance profitability and reduce risks associated with currency fluctuations.

Market Analysis and Research

Successful commodities trading is underpinned by thorough market analysis and research. Traders must stay informed about global events that could affect commodity prices, such as changes in government policies, natural disasters, or shifts in consumer behavior. Additionally, technical analysis, which involves studying chart patterns and using indicators to predict future price movements, is a valuable skill for traders. Combining fundamental and technical analysis can provide a more comprehensive view of the market, leading to better-informed trading decisions.

Diversification and Risk Management

Diversification is a key principle in commodities trading. By spreading investments across various commodities or other asset classes, traders can reduce risk. No single market event is likely to affect all commodities equally, which can protect traders from significant losses. Furthermore, understanding and applying risk management techniques is crucial. This includes setting appropriate leverage levels, using protective stop losses, and only investing capital that one can afford to lose.

Ethical and Sustainable Trading

As commodities trading directly impacts the real world through the demand for physical goods, ethical and sustainable trading practices are becoming increasingly important. Traders should consider the environmental and social impacts of the commodities they trade and choose to invest in companies or commodities that adhere to sustainable practices. This not only benefits the planet and society but can also be a wise long-term investment strategy as consumers and governments increasingly favor sustainable and ethically produced goods.

Conclusion

Commodities trading offers a unique opportunity to profit from the most basic goods that fuel our global economy. Through the use of commodity trading platforms, traders have unprecedented access to global markets and the tools needed to trade effectively. However, success requires more than just access; it demands a thorough understanding of market dynamics, a strategic approach to trading, and adherence to principles of risk management and ethical investing. By combining these elements, traders can navigate the volatile world of commodities trading and emerge with substantial profits, contributing to a more sustainable and equitable global economy.
