The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has withheld the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2024 results of Lugulu Girls High School candidates in Bungoma County.
This comes after Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on January 9, 2025, released the official results of the KCSE 2024 examinations.
Lugulu Girls School’s management has appealed to candidates who sat the examinations and their parents to be patient as the school pursues its results through the official appeal channels with the council.
“Dear Parent/Guardian, we are aware that your child has not yet received their examination results. Please rest assured that the matter is being addressed, and the results will be made available to you in due time. Further communication will follow,” read a letter signed by the school principal Dinah Cheruiyot addressed to parents and guardians of the school.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
The anxiety at Lugulu Girls about the examinations comes after KNEC cancelled examination results for 840 candidates who took the KCSE examination for engaging in exam irregularities.
Mama Malia Academy’s results withheld
Mama Malia Academy also had their results for all the 92 candidateswithheld.
KNEC informed the institution that it was investigating alleged complaints of cheating at the institution based in Tseikuru, Kitui County.
According to reports, the school Principal Naomi Ndambuki revealed that she was shocked to receive a letter from KNEC communicating the action, which has thrown the candidates into panic.
“The letter from KNEC did not have many details, only saying the findings of their investigation will be communicated later,” stated Ndambuki.
The school is not new to the public eye. Established by Kalonzo’s wife, Pauline Musyoka, Malia Academy gained traction in 2022 after it registered a staggering improvement in the KCSE examinations.
The school was among the seven most improved schools around the county in 2022. In the 2023 KCSE examinations, the most improved student nationally came from the academy.
Mama Malia Academy is run by the Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation, which was established in 2005 to create a conducive environment for a wholesome democratic society.
Matinyani Boys Secondary School has had results for several candidates cancelled in this year’s results.
CS Ogamba noted that the examinations council withheld the results of 2,829 candidates over suspicion of engaging in exam irregularities, pending the conclusion of an investigation process in 30 days.
He confirmed that disciplinary action would be taken against 91 teachers who were reported to have aided in examination malpractices.
Lugulu Girls school is among national schools located in the Western region which have in the past years recorded impressive results in KCSE examinations.
The institution, celebrated for its strong performance, had achieved an impressive mean grade of 9.328 in the 2023 KCSE, with one A plain, 63 A-, and numerous other quality grades.
Of the total number of 1,693 candidates who achieved an overall grade of A in the KCSE 2024 exams, 1,375 came from national schools compared to 1,216 candidates, or 0.14%, in 2023.
