List of Sub County Secondary Schools in Kajiado County; School KNEC Code, Type, Cluster, and Category

Sub County Schools in Kenya form the lowest cadre of secondary schools; after National, Extra County schools and County Schools, respectively. The schools admit students from majorly within the Sub country; from the immediate locality. The Schools are majorly of Mixed type; though there are a few single sex schools. Students joining these schools are mostly those with the low marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, exams. The schools are in most cases Day Schools; though some are Day and Boarding Schools. These schools form the majority of secondary schools in Kenya and are found in all Counties.

Technical and Vocational Education Training, TVET, institutions offer various certificate, diploma and craftsmanship training to students in Kenya. The beauty with TVET training institutions is that they offer flexible entry and fee requirements to students wishing to study in these institutes. TVETs are registered, accredited and regulated by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA); which is a public corporate agency established under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Act No. 29 of 2013 to regulate and coordinate training in the country through licensing, registration and accreditation of programs, institutions and trainers. Section 7 of the Act, 2013 gives the powers and functions of the Authority to regulate and coordinate training; inspect, license and register and accredit training institutions; accredit and inspect programmes and courses; promote access and relevance of training programmes; determine the national technical and vocational training objectives; assure quality and relevance in programmes of training among other functions.

How to get placement

To get a place at a TVET institution, one has to apply via the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS). The available programmes, institutions, minimum entry requirements and the application procedure are always available on the KUCCPS Student’s Portal accessible through the Placement Service website www.kuccps.ac.ke. KUCCPS sets an application window within which the prospective students can submit their applications. The Entry requirement for all Diploma Courses is a C- and above; D (plain) and above for Certificate while other course categories are open.

Funding

The good news for students joining TVETs is that they can now apply for funding from the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB. They can now get Loans and Bursaries from HELB for their fees payment and upkeep.

Release Of Examinations Results

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) wishes to bring the following information to the attention of all institutions presenting candidates for the KNEC examinations:

Examination Results Slips and Printouts

New KCSE Grading Structure

Each of the institutions that enter candidates for the KNEC examinations shall receive a hard copy of the institution’s examination results printout and result slips which captures the following information:

1. Institution’s Code and Name

This appears on the top left side of the printout. The institution’s code is a unique number by which an examination centre is identified by the Council. This is the number that an institution should always quote whenever communicating with KNEC.

2. Candidates Details

Below the institution’s name and code are details of the candidates. These details include the index number of the candidate, year of examination, gender, individual subject grades and the mean grade.

The important features of the examination results are as indicated below:-

  • X – denotes an absent candidate. A candidate is declared absent if he/she did not sit for one or all papers in the examination. However, for the KCPE examination results, the symbol AB indicates an absence;
  • Y- denotes that the candidate was involved in an examination irregularity. For the KCPE examination results, the symbol 00 indicates an irregularity;
  • P- denotes that the candidate’s examination results have been pended due to infringement on the entry requirements for the examination e.g. incorrect KCPE details for entry in KCSE examination;
  • W- denotes that the candidate’s examination results have been withheld on suspicion that the candidate has been involved in an examination malpractice and investigations are ongoing;
  • U- denotes ungraded examination results due to infringement of the awards criteria.

Mean Grade Award Descriptions

  • Mean grade will be X, if a candidate is absent in all subjects
  • Mean grade will be Y , if one or more subjects are cancelled.
  • Mean grade will be U, if the entry requirements for the KCSE examination are not met
  • Mean grade will be CRNM, if the course requirements for the Teacher education, Business and Technical examinations are not met
  • Mean grade will be P, if results are pended
  • Mean grade will be W, if the examination results are withheld;

The details of pended, withheld and irregularities are communicated to the institution through the Sub County Director of Education at the time of release of the examination results and are received by the institutions at the same time with the examination results.

Release Of Certificates

Once certificates for a specific examination are ready for collection/dispatch from KNEC, the institutions shall be informed through the mass and print media, Sub County Directors of Education and/or the heads of institutions:

All certificates for regular candidates are issued through the Heads of Schools/Institutions and to private candidates through the Sub County Directors of Education.
The Kenya National Examinations Council reserves the right to withdraw a certificate for amendment or for any other reason should this be necessary.
Upon the release of KCPE and KCSE examinations, the candidates can access their results through SMS number provided during the official release of results. The KCPE candidates are expected to access their result slips through the KNEC website immediately after release of the examination in their respective schools.

KNEC posts for Supervision and Invigilation of Business and Technical Exams

The Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC, is intending to advertise Supervisors and Invigilators’ posts for personnel to to be in charge of this year’s Business and Technical examinations. Here are the details from knec;

RE: RECRUITMENT, TRAINING, DEPLOYMENT AND MONITORING OF SUPERVISION AND INVIGILATION PERSONNEL FOR KNEC BUSINESS AND TECHNICAL EXAMINATIONS

In 2018, the transfer of all Tutors in TVET Institutions was effected to the Directorate of Technical and Vocational Training. This affected a total of 3.800 personnel. The net effect of this has been that KNEC is unable to raise the requisite numbers of Supervision personnel to manage the Business and Technical examinations.
In order to effect a permanent solution to this, it has been decided that the following
steps are taken;

a). KNEC places an advert in the papers requiring all personnel qualified to work as Supervisors and Invigilators to apply through the Sub County Directors of Education. These will include:
i). Trainers in TVET
ii). Trained Teachers who are holders of certificates, Diploma or Degrees from recognized institutions with TSC numbers but not employed by the TSC
iii). Retired Teachers below the age of 65 years,
iv). The applicants should be persons of good moral character, not having any criminal record and of good standing in society.

Read Also:

b). The Sub County Directors of Education to receive the applications and vet on qualification, suitability and location in respect to the relevant institutions, and if round suitable, guide them on procedure for logging in i.e sending an sms to the short code 20078 or logging in using https://cp2.knec.ac.ke and registering their details.

c). The TVET County Directors of Education will work with the Sub County Directors of education (MOE) to vet applicants from Technical and Vocational Education Institutions.

d). The Sub County Directors of Education will deploy the requisite staff at least 2 weeks to the start of any Business and Technical examinations, to give time for proper briefing of all Supervisors and Invigilators before the start of the examinations.

e). A list of all vacancies for the particular examinations will be sent to the Sub county Director of Education a month before the start of the specific series of examinations.

f). Supervisors and Invigilators thus duly deployed will log in to access their letters. Budges will be provided by KNEC and sent to the Sub County Directors Office to be issued to them alongside Declaration Farms to be completed as evidence of work done and returned to KNEC.

g). The Sub County Directors of Education (MOE) and the TVET County Directors will monitor the examination and address any shortages and also deal with any indiscipline cases arising during the conduct of examinations.

h). The return of the candidates scripts at the Container, packing and return of the same to KNEC will still be under the custody of the Sub County director of Education (MOE) who may however designate the Sub County Examinations Officer to handle this aspect.

Meru University Courses, Online Services, Student Portal, Fees, Admissions, Requirements and Applications

Universities are the highest learning institutions in Kenya and the World over. They offer training majorly in undegraduate and Post Graduate Studies. In Kenya, the Courses offered in the Universities must be accredited by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS. It is the same body that selects and places students to higher learning institutions; Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics.

  To qualify for University placement one must attain the minimum set Mean grade and particular course requirements. Each Course offered at particular university has its own cluster cut off points, though. Most university courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. An academic year at the university takes two semesters of three months each. University students get fees loans from various organizations.

  Top on the list is the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB, that advances both loans and Bursaries. Universities run online platforms; portals and websites, where such services as admission application, online accommodation booking, E-learning, exams results downloads and many are provided to students, staff and the general public.

  On admissions, most universities have admissions in May and September for new students. Various learning modules are provided at the universities. These learning modules include: Full time, School Based, Distance Learning, Evening & Weekend classes and E-Learning.
