Asumbi Girls’ 2020 Maths Contest: Here are the details

The Asumbi Girls High School annual Maths Contest is slated for the 8th of March 2020. Schools are thus invited to this year’s 5th edition of the contest that will kick off at exactly 8.00a.m.

The competition will be in two categories; Form Four (Senior) and Form Three (Junior) teams. Please note that:

  •  Each team shall comprise of ten (10) students.
  • You can register as many teams as you wish.
  • Each team shall be charged a registration fee of Ksh. 2000 ( Two thousand shillings only).
  • The Form Four contest will cover book three and four up to trigonometry III, while the Form Three contest willcover book one to three up to Further logarithms.
  • Participation schools are advised to organize lunch and mathematics instruments for their students.
  • There will also be a Symposium session and a motivational talk. Current revision materials in all subjects will be sold on that day.
  • Each participating school is advised to bring at least one teacher for the ease of marking.

You can easily send your TSC Payslip online for loan application approval. The process takes very few seconds. Follow these simplified steps:

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO SEND PAYSLIP AND APPROVE LOANS

Step 1. Visit www.tsc.go.ke and click on Online pay slips. See illustration below;

Step 2 .The Teacher( Member ) will insert his/her TSC Number and individual password. See illustration below;

Step 3 Click on ‘Click here to Send your Payslip’. See illustration below;

Step 4.The Teacher (member) will key in his/her TSC Number. See illustration below;

Step 5.Under the drop down titled ‘Select 3rd Party’ select Sacco. See illustration below;

Step 6: Proceed to Select the Teachers Sacco/ Bank: See illustration below;

Step 7: Click on ‘send payslips’. See illustration below;

Step 8 Upon successful execution you will receive a message. If unsuccessful you will receive an error message to prompt you to try again. See illustration below;

LOAN APPROVAL

Once you have sent the payslip to the SACCO/ Bank, you will be required to log in again or get access to the system again to confirm and approve the loan that has been processed.

NB: No loan will be processed to you FOSA/ Bank account until you as the member approves the same on the TSC online payslip system.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, KUCCPS,has warned of online scammers who have created fake Facebooks accounts with an intention of conning users. Here is the communique from KUCCPS;

‘Our attention has been drawn to Facebook pages fraudulently using the name Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) and purporting to offer advice on matters relating to student placement. Some of them have provided mobile phone numbers and are asking students to send money.

KUCCPS would like to state that it is not receiving any application currently and does not ask applicants to send money to individuals through any mobile phone lines. Therefore, the online platforms or social media pages are FAKE and FRAUDULENT!

Education CS, Dr Amina, appoints Committee to vet TVET fund board members

Education Cabinet Secretary, Dr Amina Mohamed, has today appointed the selection Committee which will be tasked to recommend and interview nominees to the Technical and Vocational Education Training Funding Board, TVETFB. According to Amina, the new board will at the same time advise the government on the remuneration of the Technical and Vocational Education Training, TVET, institutions’ tutors and establish the maximum unit cost for programmes offered in TVETs.

The new appointments will see the TVETFB chaired by Hannington Gaya, the former chairman of the Media Owners Association. The TVET Fund, that has the Kenyan Government and Donors as major financiers, was established to source and disburse funds to technical and vocational education institutions.

Other appointees to the TVETFB are:

  • Alice Mutai representing the Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board,
  • Mutheu Kasanga from the Kenya Private Sector Alliance,
  • Joan Machayo representing the Public Service Commission and
  • Patrick Obath who will represent the Federation of Kenya Employers.

The Government increased financing for TVET institutions in the 2018-2019 budget to Sh16 billion up from Sh6 billion allocated in the 2017-2018 budget. This comes even as some TVETs were blamed by the Education Ministry for not disbursing funds allocated to students as loans and bursaries. TVETs students are entitled to a bursary of Sh30,000 and a loan of Sh40,000 per student per year.

Meanwhile, Technical Institutions Trainers’ Salaries are to be paid this week after Teachers service commission and the ministry of education resolve the funds transfer row. The Tutors who were transferred from the TSC Payroll have gone for months without their salaries.

1.26 million Grade 6 pupils to be admitted to junior secondary schools in January 2023

Parents and relevant stakeholders in the education system have been urged to join hands with the government so as to ensure smooth transition of their children into the junior secondary school system.

State Department for Curriculum Reforms and Implementation PS Prof. Fatuma Chege has said parents have a huge responsibility in seeing to it that the programme becomes a success, as they are the major stakeholders.

Speaking during the launch of Junior Secondary Schools classrooms and laboratories at Kerugoya Municipality Primary School in Kirinyaga County, Chege said parents should help their children to embrace the changes even as they continue undertaking the critical transition in the new curriculum.

During the function, she also awarded the school a certificate of compliance to host the junior secondary school after meeting all requirements.

The PS said about 1.26 million Grade 6 pupils countrywide are scheduled to be admitted to junior secondary schools in January 2023, forming the first cohort to transition to Grade 7, under the new Competency Based Curriculum rolled out in 2017.

She said the ministry has already availed the list of the schools in the portal and pupils will select two schools from each category, ranging from national to sub-county schools and other two private schools.

“Under the programme, the pupils will select from different categories of schools namely national, regional, county, sub-county and private junior secondary schools respectively. Only two schools are picked from each level,” she said.

The PS hailed private schools for their continued partnership saying it will help in creating space to accommodate more students, thus making the country achieve 100 per cent transition.

She further acknowledged schools for fully complying with the ministry’s guidelines as far as setting up of the requisite infrastructure was concerned.

“They have exhibited dedication in establishing the infrastructure and more so the labs, which is a basic requirement under the new curriculum,” Chege said.

Kenya Private Schools Association Vice Chairman Solomon Munene, thanked the government for its continued support in guidance and giving an opportunity for students to advance their junior secondary education in private schools.

Kirinyaga County Education Officer Nancy Munga said the county has achieved an 85 per cent progress in readiness for the implementation of the junior secondary school system.

She said the county education board has been working tirelessly to create awareness and assess the state of the tuition infrastructure, pledging that all the targeted institutions will soon be fully compliant.

“I am happy to report that in our county we are at 85% compliance and we are not stopping until all schools meet all the ministry requirements,” Munga said.

Kirinyaga Central Sub-County Education Officer Kennedy Machora said 25 private schools within the sub county have been given a green light to advance in the new education system.

Machora expressed confidence that by next year there will be about 10,000 slots within the sub county for the advancement of junior secondary education.

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

  • For each subject combination, select four schools from the available clusters.
  • This ensures a diverse range of options and equal representation from different categories of schools.
  • A total of 12 schools will be selected: 4 for the first subject combination, 4 for the second, and 4 for the third.

SELECTION OF PATHWAYS AND SENIOR SCHOOLS

• Determination of pathways per senior school
• Determination of vacancies for boarding and day schooling in senior schools
• Selection of pathways, subjects’ combination and schools by grade 9 learners Selection based on pathway

The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation

Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;

  • 9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.
  • Three (3) day schools in their home sub county/sub county of residence. (Total 12 schools)
    Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.

How Placement of learners to Senior Schools (SS) at Grade 10 will be done

It will be based on:

  • Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in  schools of choice
  • Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
  • Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
  • Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice

Admission and replacement process

  • Placement results will show where learners have been placed
  • Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
  • All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
  • Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
  •  Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS

Replacements

  •  Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
  •  Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
  • Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for  Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
  • Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
  • Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

  • For each subject combination, select four schools from the available clusters.
  • This ensures a diverse range of options and equal representation from different categories of schools.
  • A total of 12 schools will be selected: 4 for the first subject combination, 4 for the second, and 4 for the third.

SELECTION OF PATHWAYS AND SENIOR SCHOOLS

• Determination of pathways per senior school
• Determination of vacancies for boarding and day schooling in senior schools
• Selection of pathways, subjects’ combination and schools by grade 9 learners Selection based on pathway

The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation

Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;

  • 9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.
  • Three (3) day schools in their home sub county/sub county of residence. (Total 12 schools)
    Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.

How Placement of learners to Senior Schools (SS) at Grade 10 will be done

It will be based on:

  • Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in  schools of choice
  • Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
  • Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
  • Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice

Admission and replacement process

  • Placement results will show where learners have been placed
  • Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
  • All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
  • Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
  •  Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS

Replacements

  •  Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
  •  Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
  • Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for  Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
  • Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
  • Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible

  • Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
  • Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
  • Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice

Admission and replacement process

  • Placement results will show where learners have been placed
  • Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
  • All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
  • Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
  •  Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS

Replacements

  •  Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
  •  Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
  • Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for  Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
  • Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
  • Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible

TSC delocalization news 2020- List of delocalized heads per County(Nyamira)

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, is still carrying out delocalization of school heads and principals across the country. The Commission has made changes in administration for fourteen schools in Nyamira County in the recent shake up. Some of the schools whose principals retired this year will now have new heads.

In the remaining 12 schools, their long serving principals have been moved to new stations.
